It's about time I caught up on some blogging. Just about every day I think of something I want to blog about, but I feel like I should get caught up on some of the big stuff first. Christmas probably being the biggest. I might be adding some posts with back dates (like Hyrum's birthday), so scroll down even if you've seen some of the recent posts just to check.
So, on to Christmas!
We planned to have a very simple Christmas this year. We tried not to get too many gifts, and wanted to focus on service and the Savior. Somehow we ended up with TONS of gifts anyway, mostly because of how much Jared's parents love to spoil their grandkids (and us too). It was really fun and we still managed to focus on our Savior. We read the Christmas story from the New Testament three times in two days. Throughout the season we asked Selah, "What is Christmas really about?" She would respond, "Jesus." We tried to talk about Him a lot. We also baked treats and brought them to neighbors, one of our favorite things to do. We received some nice treats too. My dad came down from Utah (where he is helping my brother with his kids) to spend Christmas with us. It was really nice spending so much time with him. I made sure to find out some things that I didn't know. It's funny what you find out about your family when you take the time to ask questions. I found out that my dad had a sister who died as a baby. I can't believe nobody ever told me that! Seems like a pretty significant thing, but I guess she died before Dad was born, so it's not like he remembered her or anything. Important stuff.
Here's a picture of us on Christmas day. Don't mind Hy's crazy drooling problem. It's out of control.
The highlight of Christmas day for me was having my dad's sister Kristy and her family here. They came to Las Vegas and stayed in a timeshare for the holidays. It had been 7 years since I'd seen most of them. Aunt Kristy came to our wedding, and she stopped on her way through Utah for a very quick visit right after Selah was born, but we didn't get to spend enough time together on those visits. This was awesome though because we got to spend the whole day with them. They came over around 11 am and stayed until 6 or 7 pm. We cooked and ate and talked, it was so nice. I just love them!
