Happy Happy Hy

Our little boy is so fun. He's just as goofy as his big sister. He's also just as good at talking as she was at his age. It's been a while since we've posted an update about our fast-growing boy, so I thought I'd do that today. He loves to swing. He laughs so hard when I push him and play with him while he's swinging. He is not timid like his sister, he climbs up the stairs at the park and follows the big kids around. It is good exercise for his mom to chase him around and make sure he keeps the daredevil moves to a minimum. I need to be taking them to the park more often to make the most of this perfect weather we're having because soon it will be way too hot.

Hyrum loves to put things over his head, like this tote bag.

He also likes to get into everything...like the drawer with the dish towels and this apron. Then he puts the apron over his head and walks around tripping on it. I tied it on him one day and he thought it was so fun. Lately, he is more interested in pulling every book off the shelves than getting into the drawers though. He especially likes to pull the dust jackets off and stand on the books to reach the third shelf (so he can pull down more books). Buttons are also appealing to one year-olds, like the button that turns off the computer with it's shiny green light. Of course you can tell that I get lots done every day. Ha ha. It's okay, he'll grow out of it someday.

More about this fun little guy... He's a very happy boy. We love his laugh, and we also love his fake laugh. When he gets something he wants or is excited or he hears music even just someone singing, he does a little dance. I call it his happy dance. It is so cute and funny. Jared says it reminds him of Cody Jones, a little boy with some sweet dance moves. I wonder how Cody dances now... Anyway, I wanted to upload a video of the dance, but couldn't find it, so hopefully that will happen soon. Yesterday, Hy was looking at Jared's watch (it has an orange face with yellowish hands), he pointed at it and said yellow. He did it over and over again. We're not sure if he thought that orange was yellow or what, we were a little too surprised to know what to make of it. He has been surprising us a lot. He is learning names, and lots and lots of words lately. And apparently he's learning colors too. I can't always understand what he's asking for, but he does a good job of trying to use the words he knows. He LOVES the piano and music in general, I hope that sticks with him as he gets older. He is also really good at mimicking. I think I mentioned this before, but he's still doing it, so here it is again. He copies words we say and sounds we make. I think he's got that skill to do sound effects like so many boys (car sounds, explosions, stuff like that). For now he just makes animal sounds and repeats words and songs, oh, and screams whenever his sister does. He learned to kiss by mimicking us as well and goes around smacking his lips when he thinks it's time for kisses. It's pretty cute.
He's also running around the house now, and I'm aware that my baby has turned into a toddler, while my toddler has turned into a preschooler. It's so weird, but lots of fun anyway.

Life here is pretty crazy, but we try to celebrate the fun and blessings around us. Check out this quick video of Hyrum discovering the food in the oven...and I'll go put my crying toddler down for a nap! Happy Sunday!

It's actually been 15 months already! I know I said he is one, but I didn't mean it like just turned one, sorry for the confusion. But thanks for the Happy B-day anyway! :)
